Axcient raises $6M Series A

Axcient Inc., a startup that provides on-demand data protection for small to medium-sized businesses, has raised a $6 million Series A round. The Silicon Valley startup said the funding, provided by Allegis Capital and Peninsula Ventures, will be used to grow its technology platform and operations and boost sales and marketing.

Axcient, which was founded in 2006, said it saves clients money by substituting the need for big up-front infrastructure investments with an on-demand data protection and business continuity platform. Its service was created specifically for SMBs that manage 1 to 500 computers and 10 gigabytes to 10 terabytes of data, Axcient said. The funding coincides with the launch of the company's service. - Olaf de Senerpont Domis
