Hachette's all-or-nothing sale may lead nowhere

Posted on March 26, 2009 7:56 AM
While magazine publishers are interested in the enthusiast titles recently put up for sale by Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. Inc., it's uncertain any bidder will satisfy the seller's French parent company by making a play for all six of them.

Yet that's the assignment French parent Lagardère SCA gave to DeSilva + Phillips LLC about a month ago. It was technically a reassignment, sources said Wednesday, in that the same New York media investment bank had been asked last fall to set up an auction for HFM U.S.'s enthusiast division.
