  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Banks, insurance companies and other financial services firms aren't the only institutions affected by the financial crisis. Law firms with large corporate advisory practices are also axing staff as corporate litigation and dealmaking has decreased. Here are the latest rumors and reports of layoffs at law firms:

  • Pittsburgh-based international law firm Reed Smith LLP conducted its third round of staff cuts. The firm laid off 72 U.S. employees and as many as 28 in London, according to The Pittsburgh Business Times.
  • Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP laid off associates working in real estate and finance in all 13 of its offices, according to Law.com.
  • Mayer Brown LLP has laid off 45 lawyers and 90 administrative staff at its U.S. offices, according to the Chicago Tribune.
  • Holland & Knight LLP laid off 70 lawyers and 243 staffers, according to American Lawyer.

Other firms reportedly cutting unknown numbers of staff include White & Case LLP, Epstein Becker & Green PC and Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP, according to The Miami Herald.

It's rough out there, but there are jobs. For the latest job postings, check out TheDeal.com's Career Center. For any unemployed lawyer, here is our pick for the day:
