There are more rumors and reports of layoffs at Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE:DB), Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) and other banks this Tuesday.
- Deutsche Bank AG CEO Josef Ackermann said the bank can't rule out layoffs in some of the bank's foreign operations as the bank restructures, according to The Wall Street Journal..
- BofA is apparently cutting up to 16% of employees in Merrill Lynch & Co.'s former fixed-income, currencies
and commodities businesses this week, according to eFinancial Careers.
- National Australia Bank said
its Australian staff numbers shrank by 625 full-time positions, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Several bank layoffs are occurring in Orange County, Calif., according to
The OC Register.
- At least 561 Downey Savings & Loan workers in Newport Beach will be
laid off over the next five months. The FDIC seized Downey in November and turned over most of the bank to U.S. Bancorp.
- J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) has laid off 566 employees. Of those 514 were from Washington Mutual
in Irvine and 52 people were laid off at Chase Home Lending/B2B.
- IndyMac Resources is cutting 96 workers in Pasadena and 74 in Rancho Cordova next month.
- Fireside Bank laid off 32
workers when it closed its branch in Anaheim in March.
It's rough out there, but there are jobs to be found. Moelis & Co. is hiring and so are Jefferies Group Inc., Cantor Fitzgerald LP and BTIG LLC. Some bankers are even applying for government jobs.
