More bad news for bankers this Tuesday. The latest rumors and reports of layoffs in the finance industry include Royal Bank of Scotland plc (NYSE:RBS), Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) as well as others.
Here's the latest details:
- Royal Bank of Scotland confirmed earlier rumors with its official statement that it could shed up to 9,000 jobs over the next two years, including 4,500 in the U.K.
- Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC) closed the Tokyo office of Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity, according to a Reuters report. Additionally, BofA eliminated 125 jobs in Concord, Calif., according to The Contra Costa Times.
- HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE:HBC) is eliminating 214 jobs at its Mettawa headquarters in Illinois. HSBC has also said it will shutter its Household Finance consumer loan business, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
- Pleasanton, Calif.-based Fireside Bank has decided to cut 77 jobs, according to The Contra Costa Times.
It's rough out there, but there are jobs. For instance, employee screening firm Corra Group has expanded its private equity and financial advisory unit as demand from PE and hedge fund clients increases.
