Gordon Gekko's return

gekko,-gordon-125x100.jpgMichael Douglas has revealed he is planning to reprise his role as a corporate raider Gordon Gekko in a long-awaited sequel to Oliver Stone's classic 1987 film "Wall Street."

Not only will Douglas return, but Stone is on board to direct the film, 20th Century Fox spokesman Gregg Brilliant told The Associated Press. While the AP reports the film is unnamed, rumors peg the tentative name as "Money Never Sleeps." The plot is rumored to tell the story of Gekko's return to a very different Wall Street, a much tougher financial world than when he left it in 1987.

It seems Fox was forced to confirm the details of the project after Douglas mentioned the negotiations between the parties when appearing on "Access Hollywood" at the Los Angeles premiere of "Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past," which Douglas co-stars with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.

The Wall Street project has long been rumored, but the major sticking point was Stone, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It seems the financial crisis ultimately drew Stone back to the project, which was rewritten following the collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in September. - Matthew Wurtzel
