IAC, Amazon love iPhone apps

iphone3g_125x100.jpgThe ubiquity of Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone is starting to translate into a steady flow of M&A deals. Earlier this week, Amazon.com Inc.(NASDAQ:AMZN) announced the purchase of Lexcycle, which develops a popular and free e-book application for the iPhone.

Wednesday, Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp (NASDAQ:IACI) said it has acquired Urbanspoon, an online restaurant review guide that has developed a popular interface for iPhone users.

The startup is completely self-funded, according to TechCrunch, which also said that the company's team will remain intact and in Seattle. The deal closed way back in February, IAC said. Terms were not disclosed.

IAC noted that Urbanspoon is already part of its Citysearch partner network and has been integrating local content from IAC sources since last year. The company also said the acquisition will round out its portfolio of other locally targeted properties, including OpenTable Inc., an online restaurant reservation service in which IAC holds a roughly 11% stake.
