Big banks likely to need capital

On the eve of the Treasury Department revealing the results of its bank stress test, reports say Bank of America Corp. is going to need $34 billion in extra capital and Citigroup Inc. will need to raise between $5 billion and $10 billion.

According to The New York Times on Wednesday, if Bank of America is unable to raise the capital cushion by selling assets or stock, it would have to rely on the government, which has already shelled out $45 billion in capital through the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
