There are more layoff announcements this Thursday, but it looks like overall layoffs are slowing down. Initial jobless claims dropped by 13,000 to 623,000, according to Labor Department, reported
Bloomberg. Unfortunately, some employers are still trimming staff. The latest reports and rumors of layoffs are at Pequot Capital, Barclays Capital and BankUnited Financial Corp.
- Pequot Capital, a hedge fund, is shutting down. The firm will spin off two portfolios and liquidate its Core Funds, according to peHUB. No word on how many employees will be laid off.
- Barclays Capital is conducting layoffs "affecting both legacy Lehman and Barclettes," according to Dealbreaker. There are rumors in the blogoshere that Barclays is laying off around 700 employees.

mood to work for free like The Wall Street Journal says some finance professionals are doing, don't fret -- there are jobs out there. At the moment J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM) is seeking
250 people as loan specialists, and there are
options for bankers-turned-entrepreneurs and those seeking career changes.
