Layoffs at law firms have almost been as drastic as those on Wall Street. Since M&A transactions have decreased due to the economy, many law firms with large corporate practices have been doling out pink slips. According to American Lawyer, over 2,800 attorney jobs have been terminated since January 2008.
Those firms with the most layoffs by percentage, according to American Lawyer, are:
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP -29.8%
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP - 14.3%
McKee Nelson LLP - 13.3%
White & Case LLP - 13.0%
Dechert LLP - 11.8%
And the layoffs don't seem to be slowing down. Here are the latest layoff rumors and reports:
Day Pitney LLP may lay off 20 associates and counsel, according to Above The Law.
McDonough Holland & Allen PC has laid off four attorneys and 13 staff, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.
Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP laid off 49 associates and 40 staff, according to The AM Law Daily.
