Banks file petition against MBIA over split

Eighteen banks are taking their fight against MBIA Inc. and New York's insurance superintendent to the next level as they try to prevent the bond insurance company from splitting its municipal bond and structured finance businesses.

The banks, including J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and UBS, said the insurance regulator had no right to approve the move and contend the split benefited some policyholders at the expense of others.
