Bickering continues between CF and Agrium (Dealscape

Agrium Inc. pushed back at CF Industries Holdings Inc. Monday by testing its target's response to shareholder support for Agrium's $3.9 billion unsolicited takeover offer.

Agrium, a fertilizer producer based in Calgary, Alberta, has a hostile bid outstanding for Deerfield, Ill.-based nitrogen and phosphate producer CF Industries. The offer has been in a deadlock since February over price and potentially CF Industries' willingness to sell. CF Industries has its own hostile bid outstanding for its Midwestern rival Terra industries Inc. CF Industries has a proxy contest under way to replace Terra board members, but Terra has amended its bylaws so it does not have to call an annual meeting before the end of the year.
