Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), looking to exit businesses, hired James von Moltke as head of corporate mergers and acquisitions, replacing Vince Fandozzi, who will move to another senior role.
Von Moltke was a managing director in Morgan Stanley's (NYSE:MS) financial institutions group and head of the global securities industry investment banking group. Earlier, he held a similar role at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., where he also served as co-head of the North American financial institutions corporate finance practice and as head of Asia-Pacific financial institutions from 1999 to 2003.
The memo announcing Von Moltke's hire was signed by chief financial officer Ned Kelly and vice chairman Lewis Kaden. They thanked Fandozzi for leading many divestitures over the last 18 months, including the recent closing of the joint venture between Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley, the sales of Nikko Cordial Securities and Citi's interest in Redecard.
A Bloomberg story noted that last year
Von Moltke advised the American Stock Exchange on its $260 million sale to NYSE Euronext (NYSE:NYX) and counseled energy market operator IntercontinentalExchange Inc. (NYSE:ICE) on its $625 million purchase of inter-dealer broker Creditex Group Inc.
