Democrats grill Christie over prosecution deferrals

In a charged and fiery display of partisanship, New Jersey's Republican candidate for governor was forced to defend actions he took to settle white-collar crimes while he was a federal prosecutor -- including a deal potentially worth $52 million to his one-time boss, former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Chris Christie, former U.S Attorney for the District of New Jersey, testified before a divided House Subcommitte on Commercial and Administrative Law on Thursday, with Democrats blasting him for using his office to strong-arm corporations to appoint overseers of his choosing and Republicans praising his work. Christie is challenging Jon Corzine for the New Jersey governorship and leads in the polls.
