 There is more layoff news for bankers and lawyers Tuesday morning. The latest reports and rumors are at Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), Troika Dialog and law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.
- Citigroup is selling its Italian private banking operations and headquarters to Spain's Banco Santander SA (NYSE:STD). The unit has 27 employees. A report in Il Sole 24 Ore business newspaper also said the bank would sell its Italian credit card unit and close the consumer credit operations, according to Reuters.
- Weil Gotshal has laid off 79 staffers, according to Above The Law.
- Troika Dialog, a Moscow-based financial group, is reducing its head count by around 30%, according to The Wall Street Journal. A Troika spokeswoman clarified that in January it had reported a 25% staff reduction since an annual review in November, and this increased to 30% after an April review.
It's a tough employment market for financial professionals, but there are jobs. Citigroup and Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) are hiring in their prime brokerage units. Here's our pick of the day from The Deal's Career Channel:
