Those pink slips just keep on piling up. According to
Reuters, there have been 382,880 job cuts in the finance industry since August 2007.
Layoffs at law firms who generate business from financial institutions have been just as deep, according to
The New York Times. The news Tuesday marks no exception. The latest layoff rumors and reports are at Lloyds Banking Group plc (NYSE:LYG) and law firm
Dorsey & Whitney LLP.
- Lloyds Banking Group plans to slash nearly 1,660 full-time jobs and close up 164 of its Cheltenham & Gloucester branches as part of its integration of HBOS plc, according to Bloomberg.
- Dorsey & Whitney will lay off 55 employees, according to AboveTheLaw.
It's a tough employment market for financial professionals, but
there are jobs. It's
rumored that HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE:HBC) might start hiring for its investment bank. Here's our
