It was a busy weekend for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Five more banks were seized Friday night, bringing the total number of bank failures this year to 45. Friday's bank failures cost the FDIC $264.2 million, with a total of $11.94 billion
so far for this year, according to CNN.
Two of the banks that failed were in California, two more were in Georgia, and one was in Minnesota.
So far Georgia, which has had nine bank failures, is the state with the largest number of seized banks.
Both Neighborhood Community Bank and Community Bank of West Georgia were closed Friday. The FDIC entered into a purchase agreement with
CharterBank
to assume the deposits of
Neighborhood Community Bank, which had assets
of $221.6 million and $191.3 million in deposits. However, the FDIC did not enter into an agreement with another bank to assume the deposits of Community Bank of West Georgia,
which had total assets of $199.4 million and total deposits of $182.5 million. In California, Mirae Bank and MetroPacific Bank were closed over the weekend. Wilshire State
Bank
assumed the deposits of Mirae
Bank, which had total assets of $456 million and

shut down, and its deposits were acquired by Stearns Bank. Horizon Bank had total assets of $87.6 million
and total deposits of approximately $69.4 million.
There are 305 banks reportedly on the FDIC's problem list. Based on the current pace of bank seizures, 100 banks could fail this year. To see a list of
