Holcim buys Cemex unit

Posted on June 15, 2009 4:51 PM
Swiss building materials maker Holcim Ltd. on Monday agreed to pay A$2.02 billion ($1.64 billion) for the Australian division of Mexico's Cemex SAB de CV.

The deal represents a partial unraveling of Cemex's $14 billion acquisition of Rinker Group Ltd. in 2007, which set a record for an emerging-markets concern but left the Monterrey, Mexico, company vulnerable when U.S. housing markets collapsed shortly after the deal closed.
