Intel Corp., the world's top chipmaker, said Thursday it will acquire Wind River Systems Inc., a maker of software optimization technology, for nearly $884 million.
Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel said in a statement it hopes the deal will help it to expand "its processor and software presence outside the traditional PC and server market segments into embedded systems and mobile hand-held devices."
