Los Angeles private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners LP has hired Piper Jaffray & Co. to explore a sale for portfolio company Claim Jumper Restaurants LLC, according to multiple industry sources. Officials at Piper Jaffray and Leonard Green declined comment.

Sources said the firm began exploring a sale for the casual dining chain in April and sent out dealbooks the week of June 22, mostly to private equity firms. Berkshire Partners LLC was mentioned as a possible bidder.
