AIG enlists Santander for Polish arm

Posted on July 29, 2009 3:30 PM
Spain's Banco Santander SA and restructuring U.S. insurer American International Group Inc. said Wednesday they will merge their Polish banking and consumer finance operations into a single business 70% owned by the Spanish lender.

The companies did not include the terms of the deal, which is likely to have included a payment from Santander to AIG. AIG said that following the transaction it would be in a position to repay all the intercompany debt related to its Polish unit and would no longer be responsible for funding the combined operation.
