Arbs expect Novartis to disrupt Noven deal

Shares of Noven Pharmaceuticals Inc. traded over their value in the newly launched merger with Japan's Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Co. on speculation that Novartis AG might disrupt the $430 million deal.

Noven and Hisamitsu announced a deal Tuesday, July 14, whereby the Japanese pharmaceutical company would acquire Noven for $16.50 in cash through a tender offer. Hisamitsu is required under the agreement to launch the offer by July 28. The initial expiration date of the offer would be roughly Aug. 24.
