Cablevision to spin off Madison Square Garden

Cablevision Systems Corp. will spin out Madison Square Garden, James Dolan announced during a Thursday earnings call. The Bethpage, N.Y., cable TV and entertainment company announced that it might break up parts of its complex media house in May.

Dolan will be executive chairman of the new Madison Square Garden, and will continue as CEO of Cablevision. His father, Charles Dolan, will remain Cablevision's chairman. Hank Ratner will be CEO of Madison Square Garden.
