Finance Layoffs: Colonial, DLA Piper and more

pinkslips_transparent_125x100.gifIt looks like layoffs are slowing down a bit. The Labor Department announced the lowest reading in unemployment claims since January. Initial claims for state unemployment insurance fell to 565,000 in the week ended July 4 from 617,000. The number of people on unemployment benefits is 6.883 million, according to CNBC.

However, there are still several banks and law firms making cuts. The latest rumors and reports of layoffs in the finance industry are at Colonial BancGroup, Key Bank and DLA Piper.

It's a tough employment market for financial professionals, but there are jobs as companies are hiring. In fact, Barclays plc (NYSE:BCS) and Aladdin Capital are just a few companies hiring. Here's our pick of the day from The Deal's Career Channel:
