Krugman sees Obama's stimulus not enough

Share     E-Mail    Discussion (1)     Print Story

Paul Krugman, one of our favorite whipping boys, offered up some uncharacteristically harsh words about President Obama in Friday's New York Times. Granted he was merely giving (unsolicited, natch) advice on how the administration should improve its popularity. But it was still quite a departure from Krugman's usual cheerleading.

Briefly put, Krugman said Obama needs to admit his administration's economic stimulus package was inadequate. Never mind that Krugman himself, in this very piece, writes how "the stimulus was never expected to have its full impact this summer, or even this year." Obama's unwillingness to "talk to Americans like adults" on this matter is gravely disappointing. It is to Krugman "a hint that the current administration might share some of its predecessor's inability to admit mistakes."

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, he went there. Paul Krugman likened Obama to George W. Bush. In The New York Times no less. Years from now, when political analysts look for a turning point in the media's love affair with the 44th president, they may pick this very moment. - Nathaniel Baker
