NOT A SUBSCRIBER?C&C acquires InBev assets in $292M transactionPosted on August 28, 2009 7:30 AM
Irish drinks company C&C Group plc agreed Thursday to pay £180 million ($292 million) in cash for a cooler full of assets from Anheuser-Busch InBev NV in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The deal is a significant advance for C&C, which depends largely on revenues from cider, notably its Magners cider brand. Once the deal closes, C&C will own the well-known Scottish Tennent's beer brand, a brewery in Glasgow, a loan book of £27 million, and distribution rights for certain other brands, including Stella Artois and Beck's.
