Finance Layoffs: AIG, PNC, and Alfa

pinkslips_transparent_125x100.gifBad news for folks in the finance industry this Friday. More rumors and reports of layoffs are circulating. The latest companies to supposedly be conducting layoffs include American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG), PNC Financial Services Group (NYSE:PNC) and Alfa Bank.

  • American International Group cut 900 jobs and 145 branches in its consumer lending unit, American General Finance Corp., according to Bloomberg.
  • PNC cut 72 workers at its Cleveland data center, as the bank continues to integrate its purchase of National City Corp., according to Cleveland.com.
  • Alfa Bank may be announcing layoffs after it merges its investment banking and corporate banking businesses. The bank employs 135 in its investment bank and 600 in its corporate bank, according to Wealth Bulletin.
