Charter's moment of truth

chartercomms125x100.jpgAfter two months of testimony and cross examination, lawyers for Charter Communications Inc. and its creditors will make their final pleas regarding the cable operator's bankruptcy plan on Wednesday.

In their closing arguments, Charter and its banks will rehash questions they have been debating since the confirmation hearing began in July. Are bondholders who will receive equity in the reorganization a stealth takeover group, or run-of-the-mill vulture investors trying to recover their claims? Did Charter make false representations to its banks when it borrowed in the months before its bankruptcy? Is Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen still in control of the nation's fourth-largest cable operator?
