Wells Fargo wants to repay TARP soon too

Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE:WFC) CEO John Stumpf won't be left out of the TARP repaying news.

He told Bloomberg the bank plans to repay funds "in the near future without raising equity."

Meanwhile, the Street says there were rumors earlier of a possible secondary offering.

Jennifer Thompson, an analyst at Portales Partners LLC in New York, told Bloomberg that the bank could use a few more quarters to build up its capital.

Robert W. Baird & Co. told Barron's that Wells Fargo could offer more clarity on paying back TARP in November. - Maria Woehr
