American seeks out TPG for Japan Airlines bid

American Airlines Inc. is looking to team with private equity giant TPG Capital to boost its bid for a stake in Japan Airlines Corp.

Fort Worth-based American is trying to prevent Japan Air from switching from its Oneworld global alliance to rival SkyTeam. Delta Air Lines Inc. has already offered JAL, headed for its fourth loss in five years, hundreds of millions of dollars to make the jump.
