stock_ticker125x100.jpgWelcome to Deal Stocks. In the new Friday are Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC), American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG), AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Centennial Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:CYCL), Blackstone Group LP (NYSE:BX), Travelport Ltd., Orbitz Worldwide Inc. (NYSE:OWW), Escada AG, Hyatt Hotels Corp. (NYSE:H), Goldman, Sachs & Co. (NYSE:GS), Madrone Capital Partners, Ancestry.com Inc. (NASDAQ:ACOM), Spectrum Equity Investors LP and Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM).

Stocks were up but wobbly after higher-than-expected unemployment reports. The Dow finished up 17.46, or .17%, to 10,023.42, while the Nasdaq closed up 7.12, or .34%, to 2,112.34.

  • AES Corp. (NYSE: AES) sold a 15% stake, for $1.58 billion, to Chinese sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corp.
  • Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) plans to relaunch its hedge fund unit after nearly two years of poor performance, internal strife and investor unrest, according to the Financial Times. The unit has $14 billion under management and also includes private equity operations -- from Citi Alternative Investments to Citi Capital Advisors.
  • Brian Moynihan, head of Bank of America Corp.'s (NYSE:BAC) consumer banking unit and a contender to succeed CEO Ken Lewis, will testify before Congress about his role in the Merrill Lynch & Co. acquisition. He will be joined by Timothy Mayopoulos, who Moynihan replaced as general counsel in December as the Merrill deal nearly collapsed.
  • The Federal Communications Commission late on Thursday approved AT&T Inc.'s (NYSE:T) $2.8 billion acquisition of Centennial Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:CYCL) subject to several divestitures already ordered by the Department of Justice last month. (The Deal Pipeline subscribers can read the full story here.)
  • Blackstone Group LP (NYSE:BX)-controlled Travelport Ltd. is investing an additional $50 million in online travel services company Orbitz Worldwide Inc. (NYSE:OWW). Travelport is buying 9.02 million new Orbitz common stock priced at $5.54 apiece. (The Deal Pipeline subscribers can read the full story here.)
  • The Escada AG creditors' committee approved a sale of the company to the Mittal Family Trusts for an undisclosed sum. Megha Mittal, a former Goldman, Sachs & Co. (NYSE:GS) employee enamored with the fashion industry, is reported to have been the driving force behind the family's bid and will become the new Escada head.   • Shares of private equity-backed Hyatt Hotels Corp. (NYSE:H) rose in their IPO debut, but the offering still leaves the company's PE backer's -- Goldman, Sachs & Co. (NYSE:GS) and Madrone Capital Partners -- investment under water.
  • Shares of Ancestry.com Inc. (NASDAQ:ACOM) likewise closed higher in their debut, giving buyout shop Spectrum Equity Investors LP a tidy profit.
  • Fannie Mae (NYSE:FNM), the mortgage buyer seized by regulators, plans to ask for another $15 billion in bailout money for the fourth time this year, bringing its draws of taxpayer money to $60 billion after the company reported a $18.9 billion loss.
  • Putting to rest what some thought was a weak attempt at a hostile bid, CF Industries Holdings Inc. (NYSE:CF) rejected the best and final offer of Canadian fertilizer rival Agrium Inc. (NYSE:AGU).
In economic news:
  • The Labor Department said employers cut 190,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate is now 10.2%, according to CNBC.
