GE, Comcast nearer to NBC deal

For weeks there have been rumblings that cable operator Comcast Corp. is preparing to buy a controlling stake in General Electric Corp.'s NBC Universal unit. That deal may be getting closer now that GE and Comcast have reportedly agreed to value NBC at $30 billion.

According to media reports over the weekend, a deal could be announced within a week now that a price tag is settled. For weeks the two companies were hammering out not only the initial price, but a mechanism for valuing GE's remaining stake in the company, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.
