Reid Hoffman is best known as the founder of professional social networking service LinkedIn Corp., which has raised a reported $103 million in venture capital since its inception in 2003. But Hoffman has also been a prolific angel investor, backing some of the biggest names in social media including Digg Inc., Facebook Inc., Flickr, Last.fm Ltd., Ning Inc., Six Apart Ltd. and Zynga Inc. Now he's taking the professional route by joining Greylock Partners as a partner, as the San Mateo, Calif.-based venture capital firm announced Nov. 2.
Hoffman and Greylock's partners are well acquainted, as the firm led LinkedIn's $10 million Series B round in 2004. Now Hoffman will help invest the venture firm's recently closed $575 million Greylock XIII fund. This is a free content preview.
