Telefonica buys HanseNet (Dealscape

Telefónica SA on Thursday agreed to buy German broadband and fixed-line services provider HanseNet Telekommunikation GmbH from Telecom Italia SpA as the Spanish telecom raises its profile in the important German market.

Telefónica, of Madrid, said it would pay €900 million ($1.3 billion) for HanseNet, Germany's fourth-largest broadband company in a market dominated by incumbent Deutsche Telekom AG.
