Vivendi in no rush to help Comcast get NBC

Posted on November 2, 2009 5:49 PM
Reports that a deal between Comcast Corp. and General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal Inc. is galloping toward a close assume at their peril that Vivendi SA, which owns 20% of NBC U, is simply along for the ride.

Vivendi, however, has always taken the position that it will not tip its hand before its annual window opens on Nov. 15 about whether to exercise its put option with GE. Even after the window opens, the French conglomerate has until Dec. 10 to force GE to buy out its 20% stake or to take its NBC U shares public. It can also wait for the window to open in subsequent years through 2016.
