Windstream to buy NuVox for $643M

Acquisitive telecommunications company Windstream Corp. said Tuesday that it will buy venture capital-backed local exchange carrier NuVox Inc. for $643 million in a deal to boost its presence in the business market.

NuVox, of Greenville, S.C., provides phone and broadband service to business customers in 16 states scattered throughout the Southeast and Midwest. The deal will give Little Rock, Ark.-based Windstream about 90,000 new business customers.
