European markets pare losses

European investors welcomed the news that the White House will consider using money from the $700 billion financial bailout to help the Big Three. Indexes that had fallen steeply on the Senate's defeat of the auto rescue bill had pared their losses by late afternoon Friday. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 was down 2.96% to 4,258.97. France's CAC was off 3.7%, to 3,183.95, and Germany's DAX was down 3.06%, to 4,621.42....

A raft of downbeat earnings reports sent European markets sharply lower Wednesday, offsetting the euphoria over the election of Barack Obama, most certainly the Continent's preferred candidate....


Recession fears stalk global stock markets

The freeze in global credit markets deepened on Monday even as European stock investors remained hopeful that the U.S. Congress would pass a revised financial bailout package.
