John Paulson reportedly eyes distressed deals

John Paulson, whose hedge fund has fared better than many of late, is looking at distressed investing, according to a Bloomberg report Wednesday, which read:Paulson said that while he's bearish on the overall economy, he is looking to buy distressed mortgages and distressed debt, and is interested in investing in debt restructurings, bankruptcies, strategic mergers and financial recoveries....


Report: AIG spurned Allianz, J.C. Flowers

American International Group Inc. had an option to make Europe its new home. Bloomberg reports Wednesday that Allianz SE, Europe's largest insurer, made a joint offer with private equity firm J.C. Flowers & Co. LLC for the troubled U.S. firm. The bid was ultimately rejected by AIG in favor of an $85 billion bailout by the Federal Reserve. ...


JC Flowers bid for Bear

Last month's rumors that JC Flowers & Co. put in a bid for Bear Stearns Cos. before J.P. Morgan & Chase Co. are apparently true. JC Flowers offered to pay $3 billion for a 90% equity stake in Bear Stearns before J.P. Morgan agreed to purchase the troubled bank for about $240 million, as reported by SEC filings and a Bloomberg story. Bear Stearns also released an SEC filing reporting that a liquidity crisis forced the firm to accept J.P. Morgan's offer....
