Japan's transport minister over the weekend pledged not to force Japan Airlines Corp. into bankruptcy and to work with the struggling airline and advisers to map out a restructuring plan in the weeks to come. Seiji Maehara, the transport minister of the new coalition government led by the Democratic Party of Japan, during a news conference reportedly said JAL and its advisers have to "go back to the drawing board," adding that "we will not crush and liquidate" the airline.
