While the U.S. markets have been dragging lately, NYSE Euronext will expand in the cash-flush Middle East following an agreement Tuesday to purchase a 25% stake in the Qatar-based Doha Securities Market. Unfortunately, the deal did not do much to spark the domestic markets as investors were digesting the fall of U.S. consumer confidence to its lowest level in 16 years. Layoffs continue on the Street

Despite better-than-expected unemployment figures, and a sense that perhaps the worst of the credit crisis is over, Wall Street continues to slash staff to adjust to few deals, particularly in structured finance and private equity.
