The euphoric effect that the election hoopla had on Wall Street clearly has subsided, and investors are again reminded that the new guy taking over does not have a magic remedy that will instantaneously make this big economic mess disappear. Earnings season is once again upon us and a few bright spots among Deal Stocks -- such as J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s [JPM] better-than-expected first-quarter results -- helped power the markets to significant gains in Wednesday midday trading. The surge may likely be a brief one as fallout from the credit crisis continues with the likes of mortgage lender National City Corp. [NCC] looking for a buyer.
