VC Rating: Adventure Central gains $3.5 million to target outdoor travel niche

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Company: Adventure Central
Description: Adventure travel technology provider
Competitors: iExplore
Location: Denver
Amount Raised: $3.5 million
Round: Second
Date Announced: 1/9/07
VC Firms: Allegis Capital, Wolf Ventures, Advantage Capital Partners
VC Directors: Pete Bodine
Quick Take: Adventure Central targets adventure travel outfitters with software that helps them organize and distribute their trip offerings. The company grew from $2 million worth of travel booked in 2005 to $7 million last year. Carving up travel niches currently being purchased offline and bringing them online makes sense. But, it will take skill and money to convince all of those small providers of river rafting, fly fishing, mountaineering, scuba-diving and other adventure travel to take the technological leap. If Adventure Central can successfully grab a large chunk of the industry, a sale to Expedia, Orbitz or Travelocity is guaranteed.
