Acquisitions drive fastest-growing Web sites, says comScore

comScore logo.jpgMany of the big gains among the fastest-growing Web sites are the results of acquisitions, according to the latest rankings from comScore due Thursday. According to a sneak peak of the results published by TechCrunch, CBS Corp.'s buying Cnet Networks Inc., Waterfront Media's buying Revolution Health (a boon to the Everyday Health site), and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s purchase of Washington Mutual Inc. all contributed to their high comScore showings -- as did the partnership between Break Media and Glam Media.

Sites that grew organically include
Infospace, Wordpress, Weatherbug, Answers.com Sites, Facebook, Hearst Digital Media and Mozilla.

During 2008, comScore estimates that 4.5 trillion display ads were served in the U.S., a slight decline from the year before as publishers reduced inventory in an attempt to raise prices. - Mary Kathleen Flynn
