CitySquares Online Inc., a local search provider serving people in the Northeast part of the country, announced on Wednesday that it has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Mark Cuban and Jonathan Kraft.

Labeling itself a provider of "hyper-local search," CitySquares helps consumers find local businesses online, while also giving those merchants a presence on the Web. As part of Wednesday's announcement, the company said it would expand its presence across the county in November with a national rollout. By next spring it expects to feature more than 16 million businesses on its site.

Cuban, owner of the National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks, made his fortune through sale of Broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.9 billion back in 1999 and has invested in a number of small Internet startups. Kraft is founder, chairman and CEO of The Kraft Group, which owns the New England Patriots. CitySquares has also raised seed funding from eCoast Angel Network, which focuses on backing startups in the New Hampshire coastal  area (CitySquares is based in Boston.)

"The investment capital we have received from Mark Cuban and Jonathan Kraft validates our position as a leading player in the realm of hyper-local search," says Ben Saren, CEO and co-founder of CitySquares, in a statement. -- David Shabelman
