Hundreds of Silicon Valley movers and shakers crammed into the August Capital patio on Sand Hill Road last night to celebrate the firm's August Annual party (which occurs in September).
Last year, Tim Draper was the center of attention owing to his firm's impending monster exits from Baidu and eBay. This year, it was much smaller, but no less interesting transaction that many were discussing. That is blogging company Six Apart's acquisition of Rojo and subsequent spinout of its best known asset, the feed reader. Rojo CEO Chris Alden was on the scene as was the Six Apart clique which monopolized a patio corner. I badgered the Trotts about it last night, but just as they did after a similar interrogation I gave them last year, they quickly put their marketing guru before me in order to try to answer my questions. Before I could get going, Chris Nolan joined us and filled me in on some gossip and told me about her startup.
Others enjoying the Mediterranean cuisine under the full moon were Jim Marver of VantagePoint Ventures, James Lussier of Norwest Venture Partners, Dan'l Lewin of Microsoft, Ted Rheingold of Dogster, Oren Michels of Mashery and angel investor Jeff Clavier.
