VC Rating: Tvtrip raises $4.8 million to film hotel rooms

Share     E-Mail    Discussion (1)     Print Story

Company: Tvtrip.com
Description: Online hotel video library
Competitors: Trivop
Location: London
Amount Raised: $4.8 million
Round: First
Date Announced: 7/11/07
VC Firms: Balderton Capital, Partech International
VC Directors: Mark Evans, Philippe Collombel
Quick Take: Applying online video to the travel vertical is a lucrative proposition. But Tvtrip.com is doing little more than hiring cameramen to film hotel rooms and then organizing the video neatly on a web site. At most, it's a feature for Orbitz/Expedia/Travelocity that the online travel giants haven't yet got around to doing themselves. That's the reason numerous startups are created and can lead to a nice exit, but bandwidth and marketing costs will hinder Tvtrip.com's chance of growing into a profitable and independent travel company. Instead, a respectable sale to Orbexpocity is the best result investors can hope for.
