Ranking right up there with the great mysteries of the world like who built the Great Pyramid and who really swallowed a handful of sleeping pills in Isiah Thomas' house last week lies the question, "What is the best way to market to young adults?" Access 360 Meda Inc. claims to have the answer.
The startup on Tuesday announced it raised $8 million in Series B funding in a round led by Mission Ventures, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners.
Billed as an "out-of-home media network," Access 360 combines in-store, online and mobile marketing to "encourage youth to engage and connect in the marketing message." Sounds like something that should also be marketed to parents wondering how to connect with their teenage children.
The company says it has partnerships with more than 20 prominent young-adult retail chains, such as Journeys, but also has worked with old-school companies like Macy's Inc. and Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. No time to look this up and confirm, but Access 360 founder and president Roman Tsunder says that by 2010, today's young adults will be the largest demographic in terms of size and spending, and guess what they're No. 1 activity is?
