Hollywood Interactive Inc., whose
MyHollywood.com offers celebrity gossip, casual games and fashion content primarily for women, has landed a $5 million Series A round of funding. Leading the investment is BlueRun Ventures, an early-stage investor with a number of media, advertising and entertainment startups in its
portfolio, including Slide, Vantage Holdings and Zivity.
The centerpiece of MyHollywood.com is the avatar-based massive multiplayer game
"Red Carpet." The game, as MyHollywood describes it, "allows participants to achieve progressive levels of celebrity." Players create an avatar and zip around virtual
Hollywood, where they earn points by playing celebrity-themed
mini-games, answering quizzes about breaking news and headlines (and recruiting additional players).
