Yaletown sees promise in Pacific Northwest clean tech

yaletown.jpgYaletown Venture Partners, a Vancouver firm specializing in local clean technology and IT startups whose portfolio companies include Microstaq Inc. and 6N Silicon Inc., has closed an initial $65 million on its $100 million Yaletown Ventures II Limited Partnership

The firm, which concentrates its investments in early-stage startups, says this latest fund follows its debut $42 million fund, which was also raised in challenging market conditions in 2003.

"Yaletown believes that early-stage venture capital investing is fundamentally a local business," says Steve Hnatiuk, a co-founder and general partner of the firm. "Clean-tech and IT investment opportunities in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest continue to grow and we are expanding our partnership's resources to take advantage of the very best opportunities." -- Andrea Orr
