If you're ever wondered who is fortunate enough to be a limited partner in Sequoia Capital's venture funds, today is your lucky day.
More than one hundred Sequoia XI LPs are listed in an SEC document filed by Google this evening in relation to its $1.65 billion acquisition of YouTube last year.
Some of the names on the list are surprising. Among the recipients was NBC newsman Forrest Sawyer, who received 170 Google shares, which were selling at $467 per share earlier this week. Sawyer actually raised money from Sequoia for a news startup in 2002. Maury Povich also received 170 shares. I'm not sure what his connection to Sequoia is. Other names on the list include Jerry Yang and Marc Andreessen, who each received 340 Google shares.
Sequoia's total take from YouTube amounts to 941,000 shares worth $440 million. The Ford Foundation received more than 20% of that making it Sequoia XI's largest LP by far.
